Learning Intention for this Module

Building Student Independence

In Module 2 we explored how to communicate what quality looks like in ways students can genuinely understand. But understanding quality and being able to pursue it independently are two very different things.

In this module, we will examine how success criteria can go beyond describing performance — becoming a tool that students use to monitor their own progress, and how separating the context of a task from its core learning intention unlocks genuine transfer and independence.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

Build student independence: Evaluate the role of success criteria in student self-monitoring, and reflect on current planning routines to outline how to separate a specific task's context from its core learning intention — so that students can transfer their learning beyond any single task.
